Miata Roll Bars

by admin on May 14, 2010

There two main tips of Miata roll bars: the SCCA approved Miata roll bar for use in SOLO 1 racing and roll bars that are designed for street use.

As most of us use our Miatas for the street only, you don't really want a SCCA approved roll bar.

Miata roll bars that are SOLO 1 approved are taller and further forward in the Miata than non-SOLO 1 roll bars. This makes the rollbar closer to the driver's head. Obviously, not a problem if you are racing and wear a helmet, but not really practical if you are just using the Miata to cruise to the grocery store. Hence, the market for non-SOLO roll bars.

Most Miata roll bars will NOT fit with a factory Miata hard top unless otherwise noted. So if you have a hard-top Miata, buy carefully (i.e. look for roll bars that specifically say they are compatible with hard tops)
